The Grand Piano

The Grand Piano

To a lot of people, the piano is some kind of magical mystery box. But to one of my visually impaired student who had been playing piano for five years, playing the piano is her special ability. I was at her first piano solo concert today, as I watched her play it brought me to tears.
Before her concert, she asked me to help her find an appropriate dress. Trying to think back to my first  elementary piano concert I remember I wore a black dress, with my hair tied up in a bun and added some twinkly hair jewels. As for her, I picked out a nice black shimmering dress along with black sandals.  She looked absolutely stunning at the performance!
Here are a few tips for how to dress for your own solo concert:

Ladies:

Jolie's Black Gown

Where a black formal gown! Check out the picture above, Angelina Jolie’s black gown is a nice dress to consider for your concert. You don’t have to get the exact same one, but something similar to this will do!  Keep in mind that if you dress your best you never have to worry about being under dressed. I’ve been to many concerts, and being the super star of the day you should try to wear something that will catch people’s attention. Don’t forget to apply some make up along with a shinny lip gloss!

Male:

Brad Pitt's Tuexdo

I think the most appropriate outfit is to wear a tuxedo. Yes, look at Brad Pitt’s tuxedo. Don’t you think it look smart on him?  Once again, if you dress your best you never have to worry about being under dressed. Dressing your best will help you create the impression of being professional.

NO NO’s:

• Baggy tees. Were you even thinking of inappropriate slogans? I didn’t think so.
• Baggy Jeans. They look bad, and make a bad impression.
• Bright colored sneakers.
• Loose or skimpy tanks. Spaghetti straps aren’t acceptable at most schools.
• Very short skirts. Don’t even think about it.

DON’T FORGET TO:

1. Remove inappropriate items, such as jewelries.
2. Stay smiling.
3. Entertain yourself and the audience!
4. Relax and enjoy your concert!

My 13 year old daughter (piano) and her brother (violin) are soloists together with a regional orchestra in Nov. It has been so difficult to find a dress since she is not tall (4′10) and thus does not want a floor length gown, and we would like something that is a jewel tone and with some sort of a sleeve. Also some fullness in the skirt looks pretty when seated at the piano. Very few (0) of the dresses out there fit the bill. Plus she is size 0 which makes it even harder. We did find a black dress that is pretty and on her fits just below the knee, and a black shrug (for the sleeve). We also found some pretty red shoes. I guess that may have to do since the concert is only a couple of month away and we have been looking a lot with no luck.
